Tolkr · Last updated: October 19, 2026
1. In short
Tolkr translates a conversation between people sitting at the same phone. What you say (the sound, the words the phone recognises and their translations) is processed on the phone and is not sent to us or to anyone else. Tolkr has no account, shows no ads, and we run no server that receives your conversations. The phone goes online only for the things listed in section 5: downloading models and language packs, purchases, and a currency-rate file.
2. Who we are
Neron LLC ("Neron", "we", "us") makes Tolkr, listed on the App Store as "Tolkr: Offline Interpreter" (in Turkish, "Tolkr: İnternetsiz Tercüman"). This policy explains what Tolkr does with data, what leaves the phone and how you delete what it keeps. Contact: [email protected].
3. Your conversation stays on the phone
- Listening. Tolkr listens only after someone taps their microphone, and stops when that person stops speaking or taps again.
- Speech recognition. The phone's own recognizer turns speech into text, and Tolkr asks it to work on the device only.
- Doğru mod recordings. In Doğru mod the turn is also recorded into a temporary file, so the Whisper model running on the phone can read it again more carefully. The file is deleted as soon as that turn is done. If Tolkr is closed in the middle of a turn, the leftover file is deleted the next time Tolkr starts.
- Translation. Translation runs on the phone: Apple's on-device Translation framework and, in Doğru mod, a translation model (Tencent Hy-MT2) that runs inside the app.
- Voices. Translations are read aloud with the voices built into your phone.
- None of this is sent to Neron, to the makers of the models, or to any analytics service.
4. History and settings on the phone
4.1 Conversation history
- During a session, the conversation is kept in the phone's memory so you can look back at it in History.
- Saving it is off by default. Only if you turn on "Keep conversations" in Settings does Tolkr write it to the phone's storage, encrypted with a key that is created on the phone, kept in its keychain for this device only, and never leaves it. The saved file sits in a folder that is not included in iCloud or computer backups.
- Turning "Keep conversations" off removes what was saved. In History, Delete clears the conversation.
- Share in History hands the text to your phone's share sheet only when you tap it; you choose where it goes.
4.2 Settings
Tolkr also keeps on the phone: the languages you chose, reading speed, whether the first-use hint has been shown, how many Doğru mod translations are left in the first-use taste, and which models have been downloaded. None of it is sent anywhere.
5. When Tolkr goes online: the complete list
5.1 Doğru mod models, from Hugging Face
- Doğru mod needs its models on the phone: Whisper (speech recognition, by OpenAI), Silero VAD (finds where speech starts and stops) and Tencent Hy-MT2 (translation). Tolkr downloads them once from huggingface.co, about 1.3 to 1.7 GB in total depending on the phone, and checks each file against a known checksum before using it.
- The download starts by itself on Wi-Fi. On mobile data Tolkr asks first.
- The request carries no account, name or identifier from Tolkr. Like any web server, Hugging Face sees your IP address, the file requested and the time. Its privacy policy: huggingface.co/privacy.
- Phones without enough memory for Doğru mod do not download these models; Tolkr uses the phone's own engines there.
5.2 Language packs, from Apple
When the on-device translation or speech files for a language are not yet on your iPhone, Tolkr shows Apple's own download screen and iOS downloads them from Apple. Apple's privacy policy applies to that download: apple.com/legal/privacy.
5.3 Purchases, through RevenueCat
- Tolkr Pro is sold through the App Store. Apple handles the payment; we never see your card or Apple account details.
- RevenueCat, the service that manages our in-app purchases, tells Tolkr whether Pro is active. Tolkr contacts it when it starts and when you open the Pro sheet, buy or restore. RevenueCat receives an anonymous ID that its software creates on your phone, your purchase and subscription details from the App Store, and technical details such as the app and iOS version; like any server, it sees your IP address. It receives no name, e-mail address or conversation.
- RevenueCat's privacy policy: revenuecat.com/privacy.
5.4 Currency rate, from the European Central Bank
To show a price someone said in your own currency, Tolkr downloads the European Central Bank's public daily reference-rate file from ecb.europa.eu when the phone is online, and keeps it on the phone with its date so the rate's age is always shown. The request contains nothing about you or your conversation; the ECB sees an ordinary web request, including your IP address.
5.5 Anonymous usage events
- Tolkr has a short list of usage events that tell us whether the app works for people: first open, onboarding started, each onboarding step, onboarding finished, first translation delivered, Pro sheet shown, purchase started, free trial started, purchase completed and purchase restored.
- An event can carry only: which onboarding step it was, which plan (weekly, yearly or lifetime), which offer was shown, why the Pro sheet opened, and whether the app is a test build. Events never contain audio, text, translations, the languages you speak, a name or an account.
- Today these events are not sent anywhere: the app has no destination configured for them. If we connect a measurement service, we will name it in this policy, with what it receives, before a version of Tolkr that sends them is released.
6. What Tolkr does not do
- No account and no sign-in.
- No ads, and no advertising, tracking or crash-reporting software in the app. Tolkr does not use your phone's advertising identifier.
- No cloud translation. If a language pair cannot be translated on the phone, Tolkr says so; it does not quietly go online.
- We do not sell data, and we have none of your conversations to sell.
7. Permissions
- Microphone: to hear the person who tapped their microphone. Tolkr asks for it the first time someone taps a microphone, not before.
- Speech recognition: to turn speech into text on the phone.
- If you say no, Tolkr offers to continue by typing.
8. Who receives data
Only the services in section 5, and only what that section says: Hugging Face (model downloads), Apple (language packs and the purchase itself), RevenueCat (purchase status) and the European Central Bank (the currency file). Neron itself receives nothing from the app.
9. How long data is kept
- On the phone: a session's conversation until the session ends; saved history until you delete it, turn saving off or delete the app; models and settings until you delete the app.
- Doğru mod recordings: until the end of the turn they belong to.
- RevenueCat and Apple keep purchase records under their own policies.
10. Deleting your data
Everything Tolkr keeps is on your phone, and you can delete it yourself. The data deletion page explains how, and what RevenueCat and Apple keep.
11. Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EU or the KVKK in Türkiye), you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, to receive a copy, and to object to or restrict its processing. Neron holds no personal data from Tolkr; your conversation never reaches us. For the purchase record at RevenueCat, or any question, write to [email protected]. You can also complain to your data protection authority.
12. Security
Saved history is encrypted on the phone with a key that stays on the device. Model files are checked against known checksums before they are used. Downloads and purchase checks use encrypted connections (HTTPS).
13. Children
Tolkr is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children. Tolkr collects no personal data from anyone.
14. Changes to this policy
When Tolkr changes what it does with data, we update this policy first and change the "Last updated" date above.
